Join our NYC community for the 3rd annual Iftar for the People: Making Bail Bonds, Breaking Jail Bonds, Building Community Bonds. For the last two years we have gathered with our community during this holy month to break bread and share stories or resilience and resistance.
This event was born from the need to create community spaces that challenges police-centric notions of safety. We believe that WE keep each other safe and that the police, ICE, military etc. do not. During this particularly trying time, our community has shown up (as they always do), to support each other by bailing folks out of jail and detention, distributing food and meals, and by filling in the void left by the state.
This event is free and open to all! We will be sharing stories, collectively creating art, and visioning a world where all of our communities enjoy freedom. We are also asking folks to make a suggested donation of $10 to support the Bronx Mutual Aid Network and the NY Immigrant Freedom Fund.
