Escola de Teatro Popular-ETP is a space for social movements committed to developing their cultural fronts as a tool for political discussion. The experimentation with theatrical techniques aims to discuss forms of oppression, challenge social contradictions and train political agents capable of intervening in their movements and communities.
The ETP uses the Theater of the Oppressed, Political Theater, Agitprop and other languages of Popular Culture with various popular theatre groups in the fight against fascism and in an Anti-capitalist proposal.
At this 2.5-hour introductory workshop to the Theatre of the Oppressed at The People’s Forum, you will familiarize yourself with new games and techniques based on the work done by Geo Britto at the Escola de Teatro Popular-ETP (Popular Theatre School) with Brazilian social and political movements which have been very active in the struggle of art against fascism, particularly in recent years.
Geo Britto is Founder and Member of the Coordination Board of the Escola de Teatro Popular-ETP. He worked at the Centro de Teatro do Oprimido-CTO for 32 years; twenty of these years were with Augusto Boal. Geo Britto has coordinated and participated in many projects in slums, prisons, mental health institutions, as well as in education, cultural and human rights organizations. He has given lectures, workshops and theater performances in Bolivia, Mozambique, Egypt, India, South Africa, Argentina, Uruguay, Poland, Croatia, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Palestine, Scotland, England, USA, Canada and other countries.
He has a Master’s degree in Arts from UFF, a PhD in Theater from USP and is the father of twins.
