Join 1804 Books and The People’s Forum for a celebration of leftist texts for Red Books Day, an annual holiday commemorating the publication of the Communist Manifesto in 1848. Join us on Tues. Feb 21 for a day full of events!
All day: books, art, music, arts and crafts, hot chocolate, mulled wine, soup, and most of all, revolutionary spirit!
4pm: MOVIE SCREENING: THE YOUNG KARL MARX
Join us in watching Raoul Peck’s biopic of a 26 year-old Karl Marx, who joins forces with Friedrich Engels in transforming the labor movement in the face of censorship and police raids, riots and political upheavals.
7pm: COLLECTIVE READING: THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO
It’s Red Books Day 2023! Celebrate leftist literature and its importance, as we settle in for a cozy night and read through the Communist Manifesto together for its 175th birthday. Bring your comrades and your Manifestos – TPF staff, organizers, and friends from all over the city will read Marx & Engels’ timeless classic out loud. Decades later, the Manifesto’s relevance to the conditions of working people, and the call for their liberation remains urgent today.
Red Books Day is a month-long and international celebration of progressive literature and rational thought, celebrated on (or around) February 21, the publication day of the Communist Manifesto. We invite you to join us for art, music and collective learning:
