Class: The Communist International: Marxism in the Era of World Revolution

Description: In this class, we will look at the Comintern, a major contributor to worldwide anti-capitalist revolution, as well as a pioneer of a global, anti-colonial, anti-racist and anti-imperialist politics. The Comintern was the nucleus of the new Leninist model of party building with an anti-imperialist position that anchored the anti-colonialism of the USSR. Various national liberation movements in colonial and ‘semi-colonial’ territories, participated and received material, organizational and political support from it.
Instructor: Manolo de los Santos, founder of the People’s Forum and a researcher at Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. His writing appears regularly in Monthly Review, People’s Dispatch, CounterPunch, La Jornada, and other progressive media. Most recently, he co-edited “Viviremos: Venezuela vs. Hybrid War” (LeftWord, 2020), “Comrade of the Revolution: Selected Speeches of Fidel Castro” (LeftWord, 2021), and “Our Own Path to Socialism: Selected Speeches of Hugo Chávez” (LeftWord, 2023).
