Duration: This course meets Tuesdays 5:30-8:30pm on November 6, 13, and 20.

Content: This course will provide a conceptual overview and history of a particular understanding and practice of religion that has developed through social struggles and played an integral role in advancing those struggles. The course will examine some of the principles behind liberation theology as it has emerged in historical struggles of the poor, including Latin American Liberation Theology, Black Liberation Theology, as well as in the context of non-Christian contexts. It will also take up questions about how such a theology is emerging in struggles today, in particular by drawing on the experiences and insights of leaders from the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival.
