This is an event for the love of fashion, art, and the people.

How do we subjugate the narrative of clothing, fashion, and beauty as the proprietary property of the ruling class, and return fashion to the people who continue to inspire so much of its artistry and beauty? In response to events like NY Fashion Week and the Met Gala that use fashion to escape and to separate, this event provides a space for fashion and aesthetics to pull us deeper into struggle.

By creating a platform for local, up-and-coming designers to share their work and vend, resistance art to be shared, and material needs to be met through mutual aid, this “Material Liberation” event reflects the self-determination and creative potential of revolutionaries.

The event will include: artists and vendors; a fashion show featuring designers Adam Reid, Run Tan Du, Zia Sumi, Snikka Freyermuth, Julian López, and teniola funmi, an exhibition of student created art from the People’s Forum’s School of Art, Culture, and Resistance; a dance celebration featuring miss/chief Collective, a DJ collective of WOC & nonbinary POC; and a collection of clothing donations going to Free Store Astoria, a local mutual aid group in Queens.

5-7p: Vendors’ market (~10 vendors, vintage, art, jewelry etc)
7-8p: Fashion display/show
8p-9p: DJ + dance party

If you are interested in vending for this event, please send a note to tahia.i@peoplesforum.org by Sep 24th, 2021
