Pro-genocide media wants to turn back the tide of public opinion against Israel.
November 16, 2023, New York – The tide is turning in the global struggle for Palestinian liberation. Hundreds of thousands of people in the United States have taken to the streets in support of the Palestinian people’s courageous struggle against Zionist occupation. Many more refuse to stand by while Israel blatantly carries out a genocide in Gaza. More than 11,000 Palestinians, two-thirds of them women and children, have been killed already.
Recently, several right-wing media outlets have made dangerous allegations against our solidarity with Palestine in an attempt to intimidate and legally harass our work. We affirm our right to gather, rally, and protest to defend Palestine. This is as much a moral right as it is a legal one. Efforts to smear and defame supporters of Palestinian liberation will enter the ledgers of history as shameful.
It is the responsibility of people of conscience to denounce acts of genocide especially when they have been occurring for 75 years with the full political and financial support of the United States government. History has shown us that those who stand on the sidelines and remain silent in the face of injustice are often judged harshly.
Our joint call with Palestinian-led organizations in the United States to “Shut It Down for Palestine” brought together hundreds of actions across the country, disrupting “business as usual” and exposing the genocide committed by Israel. From the moment the people first took to the streets last month in solidarity with Palestine, to the historic mobilization of more than 300,000 people in Washington, DC. These demonstrations have become increasingly widespread and are impossible to ignore.
The shift in public opinion is palpable, and it is up to us to absolutely refuse a return to “normal,” if that normal is the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. Without the support of US imperialism, the apartheid regime in Israel would undoubtedly face a significant crisis. And that is why it is our responsibility as people living in the United States to stop the support of Israel and its 75 years of murder, theft, and exploitation.
The Palestine solidarity movement has an opportunity to deal a substantial blow to the Israeli regime and contribute to the creation of a fully sovereign Palestinian state. We will continue to mobilize and call again for a National Day of Action on November 17th to again “Shut It Down for Palestine.” The days of Israeli occupation and apartheid are numbered, the hour of liberation is near. We will keep marching with all our might.
