LaRose T. Parris is an Associate Professor of English at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY where she teaches courses in African American Literature and Contemporary Black Fiction.  Her book, Being Apart: Theoretical and Existential Resistance in Africana Literature was awarded the Nicolás Guillén Prize for Outstanding Book in Philosophical Literature by the Caribbean Philosophical Association in 2016.
