On July 28, as millions of Venezuelans mobilized to the polls to vote for their president, the Venezuelan far-right, supported by Washington, went on an attack to discredit the results of the election. This playbook is nothing new – since the Bolivarian Revolution began in Venezuela in 1999, the United States government has utilized hybrid war to undermine the sovereignty and democratic will of the Venezuelan people. This hybrid war has included the use of unilateral, criminal sanctions that have caused suffering amongst the Venezuelan people, as well as attempts to discredit the over thirty Venezuelan elections that have been conducted professionally and impartially.
