Module 5: The Agents of Counter-Revolution
Class: Methods of Repression: Resisting Disorganization
Date & Time: Tuesday, August 6, 6:30-8:30PM EST
Description:
In the 50s and 60s, during the height of the radical civil rights movements, the FBI and the US ruling class launched organized counter-revolutionary projects like McCarthyism and COINTELPRO to dismantle revolutionary movements. McCarthyism, part of the “Red Scare,” forced millions to sign anti-communist loyalty oaths, investigated millions of workers, and deported hundreds for suspected communist ties, effectively severing left-wing ideas from American society. COINTELPRO further disorganized and dismantled revolutionary groups like the Panthers, exposing the U.S. government’s repressive nature. As we face heightened repression in the movement for Palestinian liberation today, studying this history of repression is more crucial than ever.
