Academics, politicians, journalists and working class organizers will meet on Sunday, March 26 at our panel “The Feb. 6 Earthquakes: Survival, Disaster Capitalism and the Right to Shelter.” The majority of panelists have been on the ground in recent weeks, and will be focusing on the situation in TR, making connections in local (NYC) and global movements for housing justice.
It will be composed of two sessions. The first one will be on disaster capitalism and earthquake. This will be an academic heavy panel, where our friends will share their perspectives. And the second will be on housing justice, working class and women. Speakers will speak on rights and struggle against real estate lobby for safe housing, reports from the disaster zone, the situation of working class and women of Turkey. Both sessions include some people who directly experienced the earthquake or spent time in the disaster zone.
Who are we, NY Earthquake Solidarity?
We are students, workers and artists from Turkey living in New York. In response to the deadly earthquakes in Turkey and the urgent humanitarian aid need in the region, we have come together to create a solidarity network to raise funds & mobilize our allies to help victims of the earthquake in Turkey, Kurdistan and Syria.
