First Fridays at The People’s Forum: A Concert Series with Artists Against Apartheid
Kicking off this Friday, June 6th at The People’s Forum in NYC, First Fridays is a monthly concert series curated and co-presented by Artists Against Apartheid, spotlighting some of the most urgent and electrifying voices shaping culture today.
Each month, expect multi-genre sets, bold performances, and electrifying energy featuring Artists Against Apartheid. First Fridays will fuel our ongoing work as gathering places for artists, organizers, and everyone fighting for a better world.
The inaugural First Fridays kicks off THIS Friday, June 6 at The People’s Forum (320 W 37th St, Manhattan).

🎤 The night will feature:
⚡️AKENYA, a multi-genre vocalist, pianist, composer, and producer whose music is an eclectic synthesis of jazz, hip-hop, soul, pop, classical, and world music. Hailing from Chicago she has collaborated with notable figures such as Chance the Rapper, Saba, and Noname whom she musically directed for at Coachella 2023. As a solo artist she has performed her original music worldwide, including a set at Pitchfork Music Festival just last summer. Her most successful sleeper-hit “Decay” has garnered over 1,000,000 streams and counting. Akenya is currently finishing her highly anticipated, debut LP, Moon in the 4th. The album’s lead single “Hades Moon” is available now on all streaming platforms.
⚡️Benét, a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter who seamlessly blends indie pop, soul, R&B, and experimental electronic elements. He is a true embodiment of the notion of laughing through the pain, his work characterized by introspective lyricism and refreshing levity. Benét’s forthcoming record Make ‘Em Laugh (landing June 20th via Bayonet Records) navigates the murkiness of a broken heart and includes features from Margaux, AnnonXL, and Faye Webster.
