Join us at the Paul and Eslanda Robeson Cinema at The People’s Forum, created in the spirit of their love of art, film and revolutionary culture.

Black August dramatizes the final 14 months in the life of political prisoner George Lester Jackson, following his incarceration at age 18—sentenced to one year to life for a $70 gas station robbery—and his radicalization within the California prison system. Over 11 years behind bars (including seven in solitary confinement), Jackson transformed into a revolutionary figure—an author, a prison organizer, and a central force in the Black prison movement. Through courtroom drama, ideological transformation, and real-life tragedy, the film offers a sobering portrait of Black resistance in late-60s and early-70s America.
