Join us for an in-person conversation with Lisa Armstrong about her book Gender and Neoliberalism. The book examines the rapid growth of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in response to neoliberal measures that vastly reduced support for impoverished Indian people and farmers, as well as rendered the economy vulnerable to global fluctuations. AIDWA directly opposed the ascendance of neoliberal economics and policies, as well as the simultaneous rise of violent casteism, and anti-Muslim communalism. Centering rural women and activist research, they developed inter-sectoral organizing that focused on the most vulnerable women in its campaigns and ideology.
This event will be in-person at the People’s Forum and streamed online. If attending in person, please be prepared to show proof of vaccination and ID.
