Please join us for an in-person conversation with author Geo Maher on his new book, A World Without Police: How Strong Communities Make Cops Obsolete, and abolitionist organizer Kerbie Joseph. In the wake of the summer 2020 uprisings that took place across the U.S., projects of re-examining and re-envisioning safety, security, and justice were given national attention. In A World Without Police, Maher examines the way communities in North American cities, as well as some in Latin America, provide us with examples and models for protecting and caring for one another without the intervention from the police. We will discuss how the tools to build a world beyond the prison industrial complex (PIC) are not beyond the horizon, but right here in our neighborhoods and communities. This event is co-sponsored by Verso Books.
