Arabic Culture Club: Conversational Intermediate
Fridays, September 20th – December 20th, 2019, 6pm-9pm (3hrs/week; 45 hrs).
Algarabía Language Co-op and The People’s Forum are offering new Arabic courses to those who are interested in social justice, cinema, media, and culture. Through weekly social justice themes, and using a communicative and popular education approach, participants will improve their Arabic skills, and critically engage with various Arabic cultural productions, including films, TV series, newsreels, and short stories. These courses are designed for folks at different levels of fluency in their productive (speaking, writing) and receptive (listening and reading) skills. Special focus will be given to learning vocabulary and community organizing terminology relevant to contemporary social movements in the U.S. and the Arab world.
Conversational Intermediate reviews topics covered in Arabic 1 & 2 courses. Covers grammar review and text editing; focus is on developing conversational skills, as well as analyzing and critically engaging with various colloquial Arabic cultural productions.
