REVOLUTIONARY PRINT-MAKING w/ DANIEL DRENNAN ELAWAR

This six-session class provides an overview of relief print-making in terms of the political poster tradition.

The broadside or poster serves as an important historical printed record and archive of prevailing customs and culture, as well as resistance to dominant cultural norms. In this class, students will conduct photo and lettering research, design and carve linoleum blocks, and print a small run of a one-color poster.

Daniel Drennan ElAwar is an illustrator, printmaker, fiber artist, and educator. His work, based in a documentary genre, focuses primarily on issues of displacement, dispossession, and disinheritance. His research and practice concerning decolonization and resistance led to the founding in 2009 of a Beirut-based artists’ collective, ‎جمع اليد (Jamaa Al-Yad). He currently lives in Plainfield, NJ and works as Program Manager for Frontline Arts in Branchburg, NJ.
