The ongoing genocide in Gaza has created a second crisis in its wake—a crisis of democracy and freedom of speech. Across the Western world, resistance against Israeli war crimes in Gaza have been met with extreme levels of repression. Across all sectors, workers have been fired, censored, or otherwise harassed for calling for a permanent ceasefire or protesting human rights abuses.
This literary reading will raise funds for Palestine Legal, an organization that offers legal support for those whose rights have been infringed after speaking out for Palestine. Besides raising funds, the event will create space for mourning the ongoing disaster through a series of literary reflections. Only by giving voice to our grief and securing our legal rights can we continue to fight for Palestinian freedom.
