DJing as a Political Act
DJ Geexella brings their experience as a DJ, organizer, and cultural worker to lead a DJing 101 class paired with a case study on Duval Folx, a Black Queer dance party created in Jacksonville, Florida.
Born in 2018 as a response to the rise in gender-based violence, Duval Folx became a mutual aid dance party and a braver space for BIPOC communities in the South. Geexella reflects on what it truly means to build safer spaces, recognizing that declaring a space “safe” does not make it so. They will share tangible practices for cultivating community spaces that honor, affirm, and center those most impacted.
