For over a decade, the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have engaged in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which allows for broad information sharing between the two entities under the guise of “counter-terrorism” and combating “transnational crime.” In reality we know this means the further surveillance and suppression of peoples’ movements for human rights, genuine democracy, and liberation.
In New York City and around the world, we are seeing an increase in fascist state repression used to stifle peoples’ resistance, particularly against organizers campaigning and fighting for Palestinian liberation. In the Philippines, the government continues to repress human rights defenders using U.S. tax dollars. Featuring directly impacted organizers from Karapatan, Palestinian Youth Movement, and Anakbayan Manhattan, this panel will highlight Malaya New York’s campaign to end the relationship between the NYPD and PNP.
