Join AF3IRM NY/NJ, as we collectively learn from community leaders, about the impact of land-deprivation on cultural survival through the lenses of colonization, dispossession, displacement and gentrification.
Land, Body & Soul: The Impact of Loss of Sovereignty, moderated by AF3IRM NY/NJ member Claudia Lara, will bring together the perspectives of Fatin Jarara of Al-Awda NY, Yvonne Mahelona of AF3IRM Hawai’i and Muriel Miguel of Spiderwoman Theater. Together, we will draw out the thread that connects colonialism, capitalism, and occupation with the violent erasure of Palestinians via genocide, and the erasure of black, brown and indigenous communities via expansion of real estate luxury developments. This panel will also highlight the commonalities between our resistance movements, rooting them in the experiences of women in Lenapehoking/NYC and beyond.
Light food and refreshments will be served!
*Please note: In the spirit of honoring women’s contributions to liberation movements, we are accepting donations which will all go directly to our speakers and other costs associated with the event. No amount is too big or too small. We are a grassroots transnational feminist collective, with no outside funding or paid staff. Your donations sustain free political education for black, indigenous, brown, immigrant, queer and transnational women of color. We thank you for your support!
