WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Join Nick Skoug for a 5-session intro to figure drawing course! In this class, you will explore the basics of figure drawing from life. You’ll start with the foundation of gesture drawing, and build upon this with line, light and shade, measurement, and proportion. Both full figure and portrait drawing will be done. A prerequisite of basic drawing skills is highly recommended.
ABOUT THE TEACHING ARTIST
Nick Skoug is a figurative painter. Originally from the Los Angeles area, he studied painting there before moving to Germany, where he lived for 10 years. He left Berlin for a Master’s Degree in Painting at the New York Studio School.
Nick makes large, loose, figurative oil paintings grounded in direct observation. He is interested in people and the things they do, so much of his work suggests a narrative, even simple narratives, like the implicit stories in straightforward portraits. Drawing is at the foundation of everything he makes.
As a teacher, he believes that drawing, like speaking, is natural. All can learn it, and with solid principles and good guidance, this learning becomes easier.
