Join us for an evening of art, conversation, and solidarity at an in-person celebration of the Vital Lines / Líneas Vitales exhibition, a printmaking collaboration between artists in Cuba and the United States. Take in the artworks, engage in conversation, enjoy refreshments from The People’s Cafe, and hear first-hand accounts from those who recently returned from solidarity trips to Cuba. This event will also launch the sale of digital print reproductions of the portfolios.

More about the exhibition:

View the virtual exhibition here. In the spirit of solidarity, the Elizabeth Catlett Art Space and Printmaking Studio at The People’s Forum paired six Cuban artists and six US-based artists to make work based on themes connected to the life, energy, and liberation of the Cuban revolution.

The art initiative focuses on the ongoing significance and legacy of Cuba’s international solidarity and collaboration. Each pair of artists was given a specific theme for their work based on the importance of Cuban revolutionary achievements. Those themes included friendship, future, struggle, liberation, sovereignty, and peace. Artists were invited to artistically collaborate, discuss, and debate across borders within their creative processes.

The exhibition and portfolio features works by Cuban artists Arístides Torres, Greta Acosta Reyes, Kalia León, Karla M. Gómez, and Víctor Ubieta; and US-based artists Andrew Nance, Carolina Vega, Ian Matchett, Kimberly Villafuerte Barzola, vienna rye, and Vivek Venkatraman.

Artists’ original work was screen printed in limited editions in the Elizabeth Catlett Art Space & Printmaking Studio.
