Join our community for the 4th annual Iftar for the People: Building Safety Through Solidarity Not Surveillance (virtual event, RSVP below).
For the last 3 years we have gathered with our community during this holy month to break bread and share stories of resilience and resistance.
This event was born from the need to create community spaces that challenges police-centric notions of safety. We believe that WE keep each other safe and that the police, ICE, military, borders, and other forms of state violence do not. Over a year into this deadly pandemic, it is abundantly clear that our safety does not come from the state. Rather, it is our community who continues to be the source of safety. Our people have taken to the streets to resist violent white supremacy, we have made calls to demand our neighbors be freed and reunited with their loved ones, we have distributed food and PPE at a time when many of us still don’t have jobs that protect us, and we will continue to show up for each other!
We will share stories, learn how to resist the surveillance state, take action for our detained loved ones, and collectively vision a world where all of our communities enjoy freedom.
This event is free and open to all! We are also asking folks who are able to make a suggested donation of $10 to sponsor an iftar meal for a family in need.
