Cultural workers from Venezuela, South Africa and China/Canada share experiences about building internationalism and finding hope in dark times, highlighting the Anti-Imperialist Poster Exhibitions – a series of online exhibitions jointly curated by Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research and the International Week of Anti-Imperialist Struggles.

Speakers:
Judy Seidman is a visual artist and arts educator based in Johannesburg since 1990. Judy’s story begins in Norwalk, Connecticut in the 1950s. She went to secondary school in Achimota School in Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana; to university in Madison Wisconsin in the late sixties, then to Southern Africa, from 1972 living in Zambia, Swaziland, Botswana, Zimbabwe and after 1990 in South Africa. She worked as a visual artist with Southern Africa’s liberation struggle, as a member of the Medu Art Ensemble collective in Botswana from 1980 to 1985 (when Medu was destroyed by a cross-border raid by the South African Defence Force, killing 12 people); then with the ANC’s military wing. She has been based in Johannesburg since 1990, and challenges and responses to class, race, gender, self and social identity continue to define her work today.
Oscar E. Vasquez Coraspe (Baruta, Venezuela)is a graphic Designer, researcher and popular communication strategist who is part of the Creative Commando, De la Hache Insurgente and the creative community Utopix. He has developed together with the Utopix team the experiences of collective identities or popular brands Logotopia I and II “The EPO”(2019), La Hache Insurgente (2016), Cada Latido Cuenta (2015). He has privately coordinated or participated in more than 20 projects of brand identities among which stand out Bolivarian Agency for Space Affairs, ABAE (2018), Nodo de estudios Orinoco Magdalena (Research group on paramilitary violence and inequality in Colombia, and on the possibilities of integration between Venezuela and Colombia) (2017), Research of political violence in Venezuela 2017 (2017) , and UNES (National Experimental University of Security. The Bolivarian Revolution project to transform the old police model) (2010). With his graphic work he has supported the following organizations and social movements: the Commune “Comuna socialista Altos de Lídice”, The ONG “Red de Apoyo por la Paz y la vida”, Woman Help Woman, The Feminist Colective “Faldas R”, The comunitary and alternative radio “Radio Toromaima Rebelde”, among others.
Moderated by Tings Chak, an artist, writer and organizer who leads the Art Department of the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. She is one of the curators and organizers of the Anti-Imperialist Poster Exhibition.
