Join 1804 Books and the Palestinian Youth Movement to discuss Palestine, Israel, and the U.S. Empire with author and organizer Richard Becker. Taking a firm anti-Zionist perspective on the history of Palestine and Israel, this book traces the movements of resistance from British colonialism to the fight back in Gaza and the West Bank today. From the division of the Middle East by Western powers and the Zionist settler movement, to the founding of Israel and its role as a watchdog for US interests, to present day conflicts and the prospects for a just resolution—this narrative is firmly rooted in the politics of Palestinian liberation.
Originally published in 2009, Palestine, Israel, and U.S. Empire is presented here in its newest edition, released following the events of October 7, 2023. Updated to reflect the rapidly changing political landscape of the struggle for Palestinian liberation since the Al-Aqsa Flood, this book is a key tool for organizers taking the streets for Palestine today. This text and discussion are opportunities to deepen your understanding of why fighting for Palestine is not only a fight for our shared humanity, but absolutely necessary for our own fight for liberation here in the United States.
The event will be a discussion between Richard Becker and local organizers, followed by a period of Q&A from the audience. It will be held in-person at The People’s Forum and streamed on our YouTube channel. Masks are recommended and will be provided at the front desk.
Richard Becker is the Western Region Coordinator of the ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War & End Racism) Coalition, and the author of Palestine, Israel and the U.S. Empire, and The Myth of Democracy and the Rule of the Banks.
