April 25 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us  Thursdays from 6-8pm, April 25-May 30, for a Cyanotype course with Praise Fuller!

During this class, students will learn about the history and significance of Cyanotype as well as the chemical process involved in creating these spectacular prints. They’ll use a wide array of materials to create different types of cyanotype experiments with each week focusing on a new “method”. lace fabrics, flowers, plants, jewelry, paper cutouts, ribbons, feathers, etc., and digital negatives provided by the artist to make cyanotypes on pretreated fabric and archival paper. They’ll experiment with “toning” cyanotypes and learn/experiment with the wide scope of the cyanotype medium in a long-form class.

Students are encouraged to bring lots of flat objects with various textures and shapes, photo negatives, and even their own fabrics, totes, t-shirts, and other organic materials to print on.

This class is meant to also be a collaborative space to play with materials in an informal environment to develop a creative process through the cyanotype process and take these skills into their other practices or continue to learn about cyanotypes. Students can come to each class with ideas or things they want to try so by the end of the course they’ll have meaningful pieces they’re able to keep. Students will also have an extra week at the end of the course to brainstorm a final project for the last class on May 30th.

Artist Bio:

Praise Fuller is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and community organizer. She primarily works with the photographic printmaking method “cyanotype” and practices zine-making as a form of meditation in her work as a visual artist. Through her practice she experiments with the visual as a tool for political education, meditating on ideas of home, deconstructing ideologies, building and dreaming of new worlds, and translating personal reflections.
