The focus of this course is to prepare students for non-verbal interaction and communication with members of the deaf community. You’ll learn useful vocabulary and you’ll be able to hold meaningful conversations about various topics. But it’s not all serious – you’ll also learn how to tell jokes, use common expressions and sayings, and relay anecdotes to your audience.

In October 1972, nine Black men and one white woman were wrongfully convicted of arson and conspiracy and sentenced by the North Carolina state court to 282 collective years in prison. An international cause célèbre, the so-called Wilmington 10 languished for nearly a decade in separate jails, even as journalists and lawyers exposed criminal wrongdoing in the State’s case; religious leaders, politicians, and activists demanded their release and exoneration; and the Soviet Union brandished their photos as a symbol of American hypocrisy and racism.
These drop-in sessions offer a space to develop a screen-print project in community with other organizers, artists, and cultural workers.

This live panel of experts will unpack the carceral and racist history of methadone. Panelists will discuss how siloed clinics are a creation of the War on Drugs, expose the role of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the culture of cruelty, and explain how methadone is harm reduction but the system that controls access to it is harm production. To free people who take methadone, the clinic system has to be abolished and care for opioid addiction integrated into the healthcare system.
