Join the co-editors & authors of this CENTRO special issue for a intergenerational community conversation at The People’s Forum.
Nearly fifteen years in the making, the CENTRO Journal special issue on the Puerto Rican Radical Tradition began with the goal to give students and young activists a clear entry point into critical, often untranslated works on Puerto Rican history. Due to an unprecedented number of submissions, the highest for any special issue in the journal’s recent history, this project has been expanded into two comprehensive volumes released in 2026.
Guest-edited by José Laguarta Ramírez, Iris Morales, Sandy Plácido, and Saulo Colón Zavala, these volumes offer a look at the victories, defeats and transgenerational power of Puerto Rican radicalism. Inside, you will find peer-reviewed research alongside creative writing, personal testimonials, and a deep exploration of women’s essential political and cultural contributions to these movements.
During our community celebration of the special issue at The People’s Forum, there will be an intergenerational conversation between the co-editors and authors about the concept and making of the volumes, the histories told within, and ways to apply these writings and theorizations to present and future struggles.
