DESCRIPTION:Seminar of the NYC Marxist Studies Collective at the People’s Forum\nSpring 2019 / Conducted by Russell Dale \nThis course will be a careful reading of the first third of Marx’s great economic analysis and\ncritique of capitalism\, Capital\, volume one. This will be the first of three consecutive courses (Spring\,\nSummer\, Fall 2019) in which we will carefully read and discuss the entire work. We will be\nparticularly concerned\, as always\, with issues of gender\, race\, and white supremacy in capitalist society\nas well as how these are reflected in Marx’s work emerging from a tradition that was deeply steeped in\npatriarchy and the growing racism and white supremacy of the 18th and early-19th centuries. This\ncourse and year (2019) is also part of a longer three-year project in which we will carefully read all\nthree volumes of Capital. \nAll are welcome! \nThe course will run for 15 weeks on Friday evenings from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM starting on\nFriday\, February 15\, 2019 and continuing until Friday\, May 24\, 2019. We will be reading the Ben\nFowkes translation of Marx’s Capital\, volume one\, published by Penguin. (Arrangements will be made\nfor students who cannot buy a copy of this book.) \nFREE \nThis is an ongoing class and students are welcome to join at any point during the term.
