Each show is a live\, intimate\, and immersive experience—a space where music & art are understood as tools in the struggle for collective liberation. \nOn Fri. April 3rd\, we’re excited to welcome Frontyard FM to the TPF stage for First Fridays. Frontyard FM is a grassroots music and community organization located in Brooklyn\, NY since 2024. As a collective of artists\, they mix live performance with DJing\, spanning a range of genres including R&B\, soul\, reggae\, hip-hop\, jazz and house\, with resident artists Stav\, Jennora\, Osiris\, Jodí\, Isa Tariq\, Tallboy\, Mick Banks\, and DJ Sevenstair. Also featuring special guests Dana and Alden\, and Desmond Barrett. \n

Raised in NYC and DC\, Reed’s background ranges from classical training at Harlem School of the Arts\, to studying sound engineering & design at Berklee College of Music. \nReed’s 2025 LP CUNTRY is a sprawling folk-electronic offering exploring the rage that comes from grappling with the grips of labor — both on the body and in the American workplace. A double LP\, Side A pulls influence from the canon of American work songs — blues\, soul\, folk\, and country. Side B\, sonically dystopian and electronic forward\, references the format with a more rap-centric approach. The dueling sides symbolize the binary\, and the opposing forces represented in Reed’s NYC upbringing vs. their family’s southern lineage. \nCUNTRY was named a top album of 2025 from Pitchfork\, Stereogum\, That Good Sh*t\, and NPR Music. Reed was included in Dazed magazine’s iconic Dazed 100 list. Reed has performed at the Brooklyn Museum\, Lincoln Center\, Afropunk\, New Orleans Jazz Festival\, Le Banlieue Bleues\, and more. Reed has supported US\, UK & European tour dates with Sudan Archives\, Nick Hakim\, Armand Hammer\, and Annahstasia\, amongst others. Reed is a young\, visionary artist with a singular voice and an unwavering commitment to honoring those that came before while subverting the status quo. \nℹ️ About opener\, Melissa Almaguer: \nMelissa Almaguer is a multidisciplinary tap artist from Mexico based in New York City. She uses tap as a percussive instrument\, centering her practice on improvisation\, sonic exploration\, and collaborative composition. She leads improvisation-driven projects including the Melissa Almaguer Trio and collectives such as praesēns and Angel of Water/Angel of Air\, presenting original work at venues including The Jazz Gallery\, Joe’s Pub and Closeup NYC. \nAs a performer and collaborator\, she has appeared in works presented at Lincoln Center\, The Joyce Theater\, National Sawdust\, and Kaufman Music Center\, among others. Her collaborators include Moor Mother\, William Parker\, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra\, Dormeshia\, and Derick K. Grant. A recipient of The Next Jazz Legacy and Mutual Mentorship for Musicians\, Melissa is on faculty at Steps On Broadway and teaches at Harlem School of the Arts. \n

Don’t miss an evening where creativity fuels conversation\, connection\, and action. \nFor December\, we’re thrilled to be hosting the incomparable Artist Against Apartheid\, Lido Pimienta\, whose music fuses lush orchestration\, electrifying rhythms\, and her singular voice that lingers long after the last note. \nFriday\, December 5th\, 2025 • 7:00 PM Doors • 7:30 PM Performance • 320 W 37th St. NYC \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Lido Pimienta:\nLido Pimienta is an iconoclast who creates music and fine art drawn from her experience as a Caribbean woman from Colombia. Her latest album\, La Belleza\, is yet another huge leap in creativity for Pimienta – despite her having no classical training\, the record features an entire orchestra and choir. Sonically inspired by European classical music and Gregorian chant\, Pimienta created La Belleza with Ableton\, her MIDI controller and producer Owen Pallett. Pimienta was excited by how this music felt like the opposite of Miss Colombia. \nLa Belleza is a symphonic experience that encapsulates why Lido Pimienta is the artist of our moment. Unafraid to explore the depths of her creativity\, she produced a haunting\, invigorating album that only prompts the question: What will come next?\nLido Pimienta is originally from Colombia and is currently living in Toronto\, Canada. She was awarded a Polaris Prize for her 2017 album La Papessa which was released upon much critical acclaim. Her 2020 breakthrough album\, Miss Colombia received praise from The New York Times\, NPR\, Pitchfork and Remezcla\, and was nominated for 2021 GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY awards. Also in 2021\, Pimienta became the first woman of color to compose a piece of music for The New York City Ballet\, a collaboration with choreographer Andrea Miller. In 2022 LIDO TV debuted\, a sketch comedy show with guest appearances from Kittie and Nelly Furtado. Additionally\, Lido Pimienta is cited as an A&R for Furtado’s latest album.

DESCRIPTION:FIRST FRIDAYS: Fred Moten & Brandon Lopez\nJoin us on Friday\, November 7 for the next First Fridays concert at The People’s Forum headlined by Fred Moten & Brandon Lopez. \nInimitable poet\, cultural theorist\, author\, 2020 MacArthur Fellow\, Fred Moten creates new conceptual spaces that accommodate emergent forms of Black cultural production\, aesthetics\, and social life. Moten is a professor of performance studies and comparative literature at New York University concerned with social movement\, aesthetic experiment\, and Black study. He is also a United States Artists Rockefeller Fellow and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. \nPuerto Rican-American bassist Brandon López is the son of a gravedigger who himself put time in doing the same\, developing muscles that serve him well in his thorough command of the upright bass. On moving to NYC\, López made himself indispensable within numerous realms of creative music. First Fridays will fuel our ongoing work as gathering places for artists\, organizers\, and everyone fighting for a better world. \nThe inaugural First Fridays kicks off THIS Friday\, June 6 at The People’s Forum (320 W 37th St\, Manhattan). \n⏰ Doors at 7:30 PM\, show at 8 PM.\n🎤 The night will feature:\n⚡️AKENYA\, a multi-genre vocalist\, pianist\, composer\, and producer whose music is an eclectic synthesis of jazz\, hip-hop\, soul\, pop\, classical\, and world music. Hailing from Chicago she has collaborated with notable figures such as Chance the Rapper\, Saba\, and Noname whom she musically directed for at Coachella 2023. As a solo artist she has performed her original music worldwide\, including a set at Pitchfork Music Festival just last summer. Her most successful sleeper-hit “Decay” has garnered over 1\,000\,000 streams and counting. Akenya is currently finishing her highly anticipated\, debut LP\, Moon in the 4th. The album’s lead single “Hades Moon” is available now on all streaming platforms.\n⚡️Benét\, a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter who seamlessly blends indie pop\, soul\, R&B\, and experimental electronic elements.
