Take our poverty, not our children! Join us for a Human Rights Day Truth Commission with the National Welfare Rights Union. The focus is on homelessness, housing rights, and child welfare.
Truth Commissions are a tool used by the National Welfare Rights Union to collectivize and offer testimony from witnesses to economic human rights violations that have happened to them directly.
These lived experiences bring clarity and unify the testifiers in way that proves that they are victims of similar events which discredits the myth of individual responsibility for their individual plights. Low-income persons are told often that the reason for their situations is because of the choices they made. They chose the wrong complexion, the wrong nationality, the wrong partner, the wrong path of education, they chose the wrong neighborhood to live in – all of these bad choices are the reasons for their living conditions & their poverty which means it is their own fault. Framing these events from an economic human rights prospective helps to reveal the truth about the origins of these lived experiences expressed in testimony given by different persons.
