Kawenaʻulaokalā Kapahua is the Political Education Chair for Hui Aloha ʻĀina—an anti-imperialist Hawaiian independence party originally founded in 1893 to oppose the illegal occupation of Hawaiʻi by the United States. He has taken part in struggles, including to shut down the military’s Red Hill fuel storage facility and to protect Maunakea. He is also a union organizer committed to building working-class power both in the workplace and beyond.
Leimaile Barrett is a Native Hawaiian storyteller and community organizer dedicated to uplifting the voices of her lāhui (Hawaiian Nation). Grounded in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language) and protocol, she supports movement-building through strategic media and cultural advocacy. From documenting resistance at Maunakea and Kapūkakī (Red Hill) to supporting everyday acts of aloha ʻāina, she uses her lens and voice to mobilize community around land, language, and liberation. Leimaile currently serves as chair of both the Media Committee and the Hoʻokanaka Sub-Committee of Hui Aloha ʻĀina o Honolulu, bringing media strategy and deep cultural grounding to her work.
About Hui Aloha ʻĀina
Ka ʻAhahui Hawaiʻi Aloha ‘Āina (a.k.a. Hui Aloha ʻĀina), the Hawaiian Patriotic League, is a grassroots community-driven organization committed to preserving Hawaiian independence and heritage. Reconstituted in 2016, the League was formed to follow in the footsteps of the original Hui Aloha ʻĀina of 1893, a Hawaiian political organization formed to restore Queen Liliʻuokalani, after Hawaiʻi’s government was illegally overthrown by American businessmen. Following the COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020, KAHAA once again launched Hui Aloha ʻĀina with new members, updated bylaws, a new central body and a new sense of purpose. Hui Aloha ʻĀina o Honolulu is a branch of Ka Ahahui Hawaiʻi Aloha ʻĀina.
