Nostalgic About The Future is a documentary film about Venezuelan women’s organization, shot during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, the Venezuelan government and political and community organizations in the country played a remarkable role in fighting the virus and coordinating care actions. They prioritized the support to collective life over a policy centered around profits and the economy of exclusion.
After the film, we will have a Q&A, where we will be joined virtually by Lana Vielma, who appears in this film. Lana Vielma is a young cadre at the flagship El Maizal Commune, located on the border of Lara and Portuguesa states. The daughter of a schoolteacher from the nearby town of La Miel, Vielma began working with El Maizal at the age of 15. Today, six years later, she serves as the communications director of the Simón Planas municipality, which comprises El Maizal and 12 other communes. Beyond her official role, Vielma is also an artist and filmmaker.
