Update: Please note that Saturday’s book talk for Comrade of the Revolution has been postponed to next year. Apologies to all those who already made plans and have registered. Stay tuned for more information on the book talk in the near future!

Join us for a book talk on Comrade of the Revolution: Selected Speeches of Fidel Castro with editors Vijay Prashad and Manolo De Los Santos. Gathering the words of Fidel Castro, Comrade of the Revolution demonstrates how Fidel came before the people to explain the conjuncture and problems the government faced with honesty and historical context. Each of his speeches is a tour de force of explication, a history lesson, a sociology lesson, a political lesson, and even a lesson on literature. The traditions, experiences, and oral histories of national liberation and Marxism-Leninism articulated by Fidel came alive as he spoke to new audiences engaged in building a socialist experiment just miles away from the heart of the empire.

Fidel’s speeches were classrooms for the revolution. Join Vijay and Manolo in conversation to learn about the legacy of Fidel and his words. Vijay will be signing copies of the book and other texts he’s authored available at 1804 Books after the event.

This event will be live-streamed and in-person. In-person attendees will need to show proof of vaccination and ID upon entry.
