April 23 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for a special concert with Alida & the Nightshades as they explore the music and history of the Nueva Canción movement that emerged across Latin America in the 1960s and 1970s. Rooted in folk traditions, the movement used song as resistance to repression, centering social justice, collective struggle, and a deep connection between people, land, and memory.

The evening will feature interpretations of key songs from the Nueva Canción repertoire, alongside original music and artistic works inspired by its political, cultural, and poetic foundations. The evening is hosted by Brooklyn based trio Alida & the Nightshades and features guest artists Luis McDougal, Miriam Elhajli, Kim Barzola, & Linda Paúla Marcos.

The program weaves music and context to reflect on the movement’s lasting relevance and influence today.Come join us for an intimate night of music and history, highlighting how song can carry resistance, hope, and collective voice across generations.

About the artists: Brooklyn-based duo Alida & Aidan connected over a shared love for and curiosity about folk music from South American and the Nueva Cancion movement. In their reimaginings of the repertoire they aim to capture the spirit of the music—the fierceness of living, care for humanity and commitment to freedom—while incorporating elements of their own voices and those of their Brooklyn musical community.
