REVOLUTIONARY SUMMER SCHOOL @TPF
ANALYZE • BUILD • EXPAND

WHAT

Revolutionary Summer School @TPF is a virtual summer program for organizers, visionaries and people in resistance to oppression. In this introductory-level program, participants will develop their method to analyze the past and present, build capacities for movement building through studying examples of revolutionary processes around the world, and expand their vision for a transformed future. This program is based in the methodology of popular and political education, and in the politics of working class internationalism.

Study blocks for the program are:
PHILOSOPHY
HISTORY POLITICAL ECONOMY ORGANIZATIONAL THEORY

Class topics include:
The Marxist Method
Cultural Hegemony • The Communist Manifesto • Intro to Political Economy • The Division of Labor Under Capital • Intro to Marxist Feminism • WEB DuBois and Black Reconstruction • Intro to Imperialism • The Russian Revolution • History of Internationalism • Neo-Colonialism and Struggles for Liberation • History of the US Left • Conjunctural Analysis

WHY

“Nobody has yet made a successful revolution without a revolutionary theory.” – Amilcar Cabral
“Without revolutionary theory, there is no revolutionary movement.” – VI Lenin

In the world we live in today, the majority of education we receive is created by the oppressors.  The ideology we are fed in most schools and institutions is ruling class ideology, and this does not further our struggle or serve the needs of the working class. We know that we need political education for the survival of our people. We need political education to arm our people for class struggle. We need political education for liberation!

We intend for this program to provide a structured path of study to build capacity to engage with revolutionary theory and to organize in working class movements. This is an introductory course that we hope will inspire people to continue their studies as lifelong students of revolution, and we hope that those who participate in this program will share the resources and replicate their knowledge as widely as possible with their communities.

WHO

We ask specifically for applications from those who are involved in or would like to be involved in educational work with their base and/or their community.  Enrolled participants will be part of a cohort and are encouraged to make connections with their fellow participants and discuss and debate with each other throughout the program. This is a large time commitment, and we ask you to apply only if you feel that you are able to attend multiple sessions a week and dedicate time to prepare and reflect on each session.

Class instructors are experienced popular educators with practice in political education for people’s organizations.  We also encourage participants to attend TPF’s lectures with public intellectuals and movement leaders.

For those who are interested but unable to attend the class schedule, we will provide resources for self study and keep an archive of lectures that are open to the general public. Email  layan.f@peoplesforum.org for updates.

WHEN

The program starts officially on June 23 and will run for 13 weeks, ending on September 20.

Classes are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 6-7:30 PM EDT.  Some variations in this schedule may occur. **The first week of the program, class is scheduled  for Tuesday, June 23 and Friday, June 26  from 6-7:30 PM.**

An orientation call with all participants will be held on Tuesday June 16 at 6 PM.  This will be an opportunity to meet the cohort of participants and ask any questions you may have about the program.   We will also share study strategies and tips during this time.

Public lectures are held weekly, and are released on an ongoing basis.  Participants are encouraged to attend as many as they can.
