HOME: A Performance Project by The Open Program
- This event has passed.
May 2, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday, repeating until May 8, 2019
A performance project by the Open Program in partnership with the Andrew Freedman Home
What is home? Where we come from, where we go to, where we live. A place lost, a place found, a dream pursued, an existence destroyed; a feeling, an aim, a nightmare – application forms, a lottery, an impossibility.
HOME will be a theater piece created by people who have to tell you something about this human experience – its different aspects, abuses, struggles, hopes, circumstances and obstacles, and the fight to to be able to say, HOME.
Join us and create a story that needs to be told. HOME.
Aims and Vision:
To unite diverse voices, perspectives and experiences primarily from people affected, directly or indirectly as members of a certain community or social group, by the housing problem in NYC; people who were or are looking for a place, struggled or struggle with housing distribution, people for whom even affordable housing is not an option; and also people involved with housing and homes in a professional sense, such as domestic workers, policy makers and real estate agents.
Through a cooperative creative investigation, we will go towards a more comprehensive understanding of what HOME may mean to us and to you and of the challenges involved. How did things come about as they are, what are the responses to them, what is worth holding on, what is outdated? Witnessing is the key to understanding.
HOME offers regular rehearsals at different locations, open to everybody at all times. You can join the project from the beginning, or even at the last moment. A team of professional artists from different parts of the world will help you develop your story or poem, discover with you how to work on speech, vibration, rhythm and meaning, or assist you in creating a song or an acting fragment, a dramatic piece based on what you think and feel is meaningful for you and your people, and rehearse with you on what you created. Your work will then be edited together to form a larger performative structure that will be presented to the public at the Andrew Freedman Home in the Bronx and at the People’s Forum in Manhattan.
WORK SESSIONS at The Peoples Forum NYC:
