An open conversation on the concrete struggles of domestic labor in the context of our capitalist era. Hosted by The People’s Forum and co-organized with the Feminist Research on Violence Collective, Rafaela Pimentel will share the stories and struggles of Territorio Doméstico, a Madrid-based autonomous group of women migrants from Latin America, Africa, and Eastern Europe who have been instrumental in organizing for the rights and dignity of domestic workers in Spain. Feminist activist and professor Silvia Federici, who has theorized that women’s care work is essential to the reproduction of the workforce under capitalism, will be moderating.

For the past 12 years, the collective Territorio Doméstico has been working to reclaim the rights of women domestic workers. This year they have represented these struggles in an EP, with lyrics that speak to the lack of contracts and emphasize the importance of their work caring for the elderly, children, and other dependents.

Cuidados que cruzan fronteras: conversación sobre el trabajo doméstico migrante y los cuidados con Rafaela Pimentel y Silvia Federici

Una conversación abierta sobre las luchas concretas del trabajo doméstico en el contexto del sistema capitalista. Organizada por The People’s Forum con el Colectivo de Investigación Feminista sobre Violencia, Rafaela Pimentel compartirá las historias y las luchas de Territorio Doméstico, un grupo autónomo de mujeres migrantes con sede en Madrid procedentes de América Latina, África y Europa del Este que han sido instrumentales en la organización de los derechos y la dignidad de las trabajadoras domésticas en España. Acompañando a Rafaela Pimentel, estará la escritora, profesora y activista feminista Silvia Federici, quien ha teorizado sobre el trabajo de cuidados que realizan las mujeres como el núcleo de la reproducción de la mano de obra. 

El colectivo Territorio Doméstico formado por mujeres trabajadoras del hogar lleva 12 años reivindicando los derechos de estas empleadas. Este año han conseguido reflejar también sus reivindicaciones en un disco cuyas letras hablan desde la falta de contratos, hasta poner en el centro la importancia de su trabajo cuidando a mayores, dependientes o niños.
