DESCRIPTION:Join us for a film and panel of anti-war veterans about the power of military members’ poerful resistance to unjust wars. We will screen DISOBEYING ORDERS; GI RESISTANCE TO THE VIETNAM WAR\, directed by Pam Sporn during the first Gulf War in 1990. The film highlights the antiwar movement within the armed forces during the Vietnam War. Interviews with Vietnam veterans\, including Navy Nurse Susan Schnall\, are interwoven with archival photos\, film footage\, and popular music of the 1960’s. The film highlights the intersection of civil rights and antiwar movements\, and the ethics of whether to follow orders that one feels are immoral. \n \nLight refreshments will be served.

DESCRIPTION:2-week | 6-9PM | Thursdays\, June 18 + 25 \nIn this two-session workshop\, participants will be introduced to the equipment and processes involved in garment printing with water-based ink. \nThis course is designed for those who have previously taken Screenprint 101 at TPF or who have experience with the medium. Those new to screenprint are encouraged to join the upcoming Screenprint 101 Intensive. Portuguese is arguably among the 9 or 10 most spoken languages in the world\, but only 5 percent of its speakers live in its original home Portugal. It is estimated that 270 million people speak Portuguese today\, amongst which nearly 254 million are native speakers. It is the second most spoken Romance language\, after Spanish. Brazil’s 211 million people is the largest Portuguese-speaking population in the world. \nAs a colonial language\, it suffered many transformations\, particular to each locale. It is nowadays also a result of cultural resistance of the indigenous and enslaved people during colonialism. It is spoken in the U.S particularly in the Northeast\, in California and in Florida\, where native Portuguese speakers\, who are immigrants from Africa\, South Asia\, Europe and Brazil have concentrated historically. In nearby regions\, it is more widely spoken in areas of Newark\, New Jersey; Astoria\, Queens; in the coastal regions of Connecticut\, and Massachusetts. \n

SUMMARY:Psychoanalysis and Revolution: Book talk with Lara Sheehi - author of From the Clinic to the Streets
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an event with Lara Sheehi\, host of the Psychic Militancy podcast and author of the new book From the Clinic to the Streets: Psychoanalysis for Revolutionary Futures (Pluto\, 2026). \n  \nPsychoanalysis is having a resurgence in popularity—but it is not helping patients navigate the harm of modern-day capitalism. Instead\, it continues to enforce oppressive structures\, state power\, and reactionary politics. \nPractising psychoanalytic clinician Lara Sheehi creates a thrilling argument for how seizing the means of psychoanalysis can transform it into one of many tools in service of revolution\, showing how psychoanalysis can help unpack how psychological and emotional processes are mobilized by political power\, capitalism\, the state\, oppression\, and even genocide. \nArguing for a new\, liberatory psychoanalysis\, she calls for us to harness its radical power from the clinic to the streets. \n  \nLara Sheehi is a Research Fellow at the University of South Africa’s Institute for Social and Health Sciences\, a licensed clinical psychologist\, and the host of the Psychic Militancy podcast. Lara’s work focuses on psychoanalysis\, the psychic refusals central to liberation struggles and life-making in the Global South\, the psychic dimensions of resistance and revolution\, and critical Zionism studies. She is co-author with Stephen Sheehi of Psychoanalysis Under Occupation: Practicing Resistance in Palestine which won the Middle East Monitor’s 2022 Palestine Book Award for Best Academic Book. Lara is a member of the founding collective for the Institute for the Critical Study of Zionism and is on the advisory board for Forensic Architecture. \n  \nShe’s joined by local comrades for a panel discussion about the book. \n  \nAvgi Saketopoulou is an immigrant psychoanalyst from Cyprus and from Greece. Avgi teaches at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and is the author of Sexuality Beyond Consent: Risk\, Race\, Traumatophilia. She is the founder of the Cypriot and of the Greek chapters of the Palestine Mental Health Network\, and a member of the founding collective for P-HOLE\, The Psychoanalytic Hub for Online Liberatory Education. She is working on a new book provisionally titled The Offer of Sadism: Disobedience and Resistance in the Anti-Reparative Turn \nMtume Gant is a Filmmaker/Artist\, Political Theorist and Educator. He is the director of several films\, most recently The Hand that Feeds and an Assistant Professor of Film at Purchase College. He is the host of Within Our Gates podcast where he looks at cinema and the arts from a materialist perspective\, as well as the co-host of The Imperial 80’s YouTube series\, an anti-imperialist analysis of 80’s cinema. He is currently finishing his first book The Three Cinemas\, a guide book on how to use the frameworks of Third Cinema as a tool for revolutionary analysis and practice. \nBushra Hasan\, M.D. (they/them) is a physician\, artist\, organizer\, and force of nature. They are a queer transgender Bangladeshi Muslim practicing life-making against empire\, both on the wards and in the streets\, following the tradition and lineage of Frantz Fanon and revolutionary psychiatrists before them. Their illustrations and writing have been published in several anthologies and galleries including the award-winning graphic novel BUUZA!! and the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU. \n

Elæ Moss Benedetto about surging transphobic fascism\, spiritual and material resistance\, and the world-making of transness. The discussion will be moderated by Conor Q. Elæ Moss Benedetto (they/ze) is a trans queer interspiritual minister formed across Catholic\, Buddhist\, Quaker\, earth-medicine\, and Jewish mystical traditions. They serve as Spiritual Care & Fellowship Director at Faith in Harm Reduction and an affiliated minister with the International One Spirit network\, and currently hold positions in Campus Ministry and as Faculty at Pratt Institute\, bringing a background in direct-action organizing\, mutual-aid system building\, and social-action-oriented art and media to their practice. A third-generation working-class New Yorker with lived experience in sex-work and substance-use communities\, Elæ is deeply committed to the ongoing reimagining of widely accessible spiritual care\, ritual\, and practice for all who have been harmed\, stigmatized\, or alienated by religion and the state. \nJehbreal Muhammad Jackson (a.k.a Dr. Angel) is an artist\, dramaturg\, scholar\, and organizer. She danced professionally with Dance Theater of Harlem\, is a vocalist with Samora Pinderhughes’s Healing Project choir\, has served as assistant dramaturg under Julia Reinhard Lupton for UC Irvine’s Shakespeare festival\, and as primary dramaturg for Niala Telfar’s “ICON” and Tethered Resident’s evening length work Images. As a published scholar\, Jehbreal researches the histories and theories of ballet\, ritual dances of the African diaspora\, music\, and race\, and as an organizer\, Jehbreal works as a core leader with Qween Jean and her Black Trans Liberation Kitchen\, feeding and clothing the Black and Brown trans community of New York every week at Judson Memorial Church. \nBorn in 1957\, the Reverend Yunus Coldman is a BIPOC leader from Buford\, South Carolina\, who now lives in New York City and plays several trans-spiritual roles simultaneously. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Soulful Touch Services. He is a licensed New York Wedding Officiant. He also offers various ceremonial and spiritual services (counsel\, meditation\, etc.). Additionally\, Reverend Yunus participates in many panel discussions and workshops to express his unique faith experiences and reflect on the intersections of being Black\, Transgender\, and masculine-identified. Seeking a religious path that would recognize the validity and diversity of multiple spiritual paths\, Reverend Yunus Coldman strove to become an ordained Interfaith Minister. He received his ministerial ordination from The New Seminary of Interfaith Studies\, Class of 2011.

Kyle will be joined by writers Jasmine Sanders and Elisa Gonzalez. \nThe collection features a series meditating on tensions embedded in party spaces. Carrero Lopez challenges assumptions that these spaces are apolitical or purely escapist\, revealing unexpected connections between individuals’ actions and those of the state. Houston\, Texas) is a New York-based\, self-taught artist\, poet\, and educator with a practice spanning printmaking\, installation\, and mixed media with a central focus on the cyanotype process. Fuller’s work emerges from historical analysis and introspection\, exploring what lies beyond the constraints of family\, the church\, trauma\, and the cultural realities of the South. These introspections are interwoven with the concept of “rememory\,” a term borrowed from Toni Morrison\, which reflects how memory exists beyond\, or even escapes\, the individual mind by inhabiting objects\, places\, and communities.

His research and practice concerning decolonization and resistance led to the founding in 2009 of a Beirut-based artists’ collective\, ‎جمع اليد (Jamaa Al-Yad). He currently manages the studio and workshops for Frontline Arts in Branchburg\, NJ. \nOne of Many artists\, Peter and Hamzah\, create fashion\, art\, and music as a way to drive positive change in the world. Elon Musk has just become the world’s first trillionaire\, a reality that is impossible to grasp as millions of people are struggling simply to survive. This year\, capitalism’s destructive\, dead-end logic has been on full display—from Trump’s escalating assaults on Cuba and Venezuela to his losing war with Iran—all paid for by working-class families across the world already drowning in a worsening cost-of-living crisis. But this year we’ve also seen the general strike movement resurge for the first time in decades\, communities stand up in defense of immigrant families all across the country in the face of ICE terror\, and openly socialist candidates sweeping elections across New York City\, the center of global capitalism. These are not anomalies\, but the direct result of a system in crisis that is forcing a rising tide in consciousness within the belly of the beast\, as people look for an alternative against the existential threat of capitalism.  \nThat alternative is socialism\, and people are ready for it. And we have at our disposal all the means for making it an immediate actuality. But how? How do we assess and learn from the movements of the past\, in all its defeats and victories\, to build the future right now? Just like the ruling class has its tools to maintain its power\, we have our own to organize and fight back.
