DESCRIPTION:Join us Fall 2026 for a new set of ASL Classes. These are virtual classes\, facilitated by Kristen Suiter for people of all levels in their language study journey. \n  \nINTRO TO ASL – Apply Here  \nIn this class\, we will build your vocabulary in American Sign Language (get ready to be able to sign entire conversations!) and explore Deaf American culture and history. From learning the ABCs and how to introduce yourself to studying Deaf representation in media\, this offering will cover the basics of American Sign Language and American Deaf culture. \n\nTuesdays 6pm – 7:30pm EST\nSeptember 15th –  October 20th (6 weeks)\nSliding Scale ($150 – $300)\n\n  \nASL LEVEL 2 – Apply Here \nThis ASL Level 2 course is designed to continue your skill development in expressive signing. The focus of this course is to prepare students for non-verbal interaction and communication with members of the deaf community. You’ll learn useful vocabulary and you’ll be able to hold meaningful conversations about various topics. But it’s not all serious – you’ll also learn how to tell jokes\, use common expressions and sayings\, and relay anecdotes to your audience. We’ll also focus on teaching you more about the deaf community\, so you gain a better appreciation for deaf culture\, activism\, and learn how you can get involved. \n\nWednesdays 6pm – 730pm EST\nSeptember 16th – October 21st (6 weeks)\nSliding Scale ($150 – $300)

SUMMARY:ARABIC LANGUAGE CLASSES | FALL 2026
DESCRIPTION:Arabic for Social Justice\nAPPLY HERE: Registration Form \nAlgarabía Language Co-op is offering new Arabic courses at The People’s Forum to those who are interested in learning Arabic with a focus on topics of social justice\, cinema\, media\, and culture. Through weekly social justice themes\, and using a communicative and popular education approach\, participants will improve their Arabic skills and critically engage with various cultural productions in Arabic\, including films\, TV series\, newsreels\, short stories\, and songs. \nThese courses are designed for folks at different levels of fluency in their productive (speaking\, writing) and receptive (listening and reading) skills. Special focus will be given to learning vocabulary and community organizing terminology relevant to contemporary social movements in the U.S. and the Arab world. \nCourse Offerings\nAll courses run for 10 weeks. Total tuition for each complete 10-week course is $300–$400 on a sliding scale\, or $500 when paid through a work or professional-development stipend. \nBeginner I (in-person and virtual options)\nThis course introduces students with no prior experience to the Arabic alphabet and the basics of reading\, writing\, pronunciation\, and sentence structure. Participants learn foundational vocabulary and simple grammatical forms while being introduced to spoken Arabic alongside Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). \n\nVirtual: Sundays\, starting Oct 4 | 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM EDT/EST\nVirtual: Sundays\, starting Oct 4 | 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM EDT/EST\nIn-Person: Saturdays\, starting Oct 3 | 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM EDT/EST\n\n\nBeginner II (in-person and virtual options)\nDesigned for students with one semester of Arabic\, this course reviews core structures and expands vocabulary\, verb conjugation\, and sentence formation. Participants continue developing reading\, listening\, and speaking skills while gaining more exposure to spoken Arabic and its relationship to Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). \n\nVirtual: Sundays\, starting Oct 4 | 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM EDT/EST\n\nIn case of high enrollment\, we might open another virtual session at 12:30 PM EDT/EST. You can specify your preference in the application form\, and we will do our best to accommodate. \n\nIn-Person: Thursdays\, starting Oct 8 | 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM EDT/EST\n\n\nBeginner III (in-person and virtual options)\nThis course is designed for students who have completed two semesters of Arabic and are ready to work more consistently with cultural materials. Participants strengthen conversational skills\, expand vocabulary\, and develop greater comfort moving between spoken Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) through short texts\, songs\, film clips\, and guided viewing activities. Welcome to Spanish for Social Justice! \n  \nAlgarabía Language Co-op is excited to announce that we are offering virtual Spanish classes this fall! \n  \nAlgarabía Language Co-op offers Spanish for Social Justice courses in partnership with The People’s Forum. We offer classes at the beginner\, intermediate\, and advanced levels of fluency for those interested in topics related to social justice\, politics\, and culture. Through weekly social justice themes and using a communicative and popular education approach\, participants will improve their Spanish skills and critically engage with various cultural productions centered around the lived experiences of working-class people of Indigenous and African descent on the continent. These courses are designed for folks at different levels of fluency in their productive (speaking\, writing) and receptive (listening and reading) skills. However\, we prioritize access to folks identified as BIPOC. \n▪ Please only apply if you can attend most of the classes.  \n▪ Each session can hold up to 15 participants. \n▪ Cost of class is $200–$400 on a sliding scale\, or $500 if your tuition is paid by an employer or institutional funding source. This includes 25 hours of instruction over 10 weeks and all course materials. \n  \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION \nAll courses focus on the use of inclusive\, gender-neutral\, and anti-racist language. There is an emphasis on validating U.S. Spanish and other varieties of Spanish that are often considered “non-standard.” We actively include the use of “vos” as used in Central America.  \n  \nAs part of Algarabía’s mission to make our courses accessible\, we offer sliding-scale rates and flexible payment plans. You’ll be able to select your payment tier and plan directly within the application form\, based on your financial circumstances. \nABOUT OUR LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION: At Algarabía Language Co-op\, we see language learning as a meaningful\, collaborative\, and transformative process reflected in our training in hands-on communicative and task-based language teaching approaches and our use of popular education in the language classroom. We seek to support the holistic development of all language learners as they become competent multilingual speakers.
