DESCRIPTION:Join Writers Against the War on Gaza and Medical Students for Justice for Palestine for “HEALTH IS POLITICAL\,” a teach-in taking place on Saturday\, March 1 from 12:30-3:00pm at The People’s Forum in NYC. \nThough health is often conceived of as a scientific\, insulated field\, it is inextricably political. From the air quality of our cities to the safety of our neighborhoods to the medical care we can access\, our health is bound together\, both locally and globally. \nYet the American Medical Association\, widely recognized as the foremost medical lobbying group in the nation\, has refused to take a stance against the Israeli occupation of Palestine\, claiming “geopolitics” is “beyond [their] purview.” \nWe will unpack what the Palestine exception exposes about the broader relationship between American medicine and U.S. imperialism. We will study the Young Lords’ Lincoln Hospital Takeover\, as a concrete example of healthcare workers and community members working together to defend health as a human right. Finally\, we’ll collaboratively envision what the future of global health looks like\, planning for the role of health and healthcare in the struggle for liberation. \nThis event is free with registration. Everyone is welcome regardless of their background in health. The People’s Forum is wheelchair accessible. Masks are strongly encouraged and will be provided. Join the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) in the next phase in our fight to end this genocide and enact a people’s arms embargo! \nLogistics companies\, with Maersk as the industry lead\, are the invisible profiteers of the current genocide in Gaza. \nSince last October\, Maersk has transported over 300 million dollars worth of weapons components to the biggest arms manufacturers. We must intensify the pressure on these institutions that are profiting off of the blood of the Palestinian people! We can and must halt the flow of the weapons massacring our people\, through every avenue available to us. \nWe demand that Maersk end it’s complicity in the genocide of our people by:\n1. Stop transporting weapons components for arms manufacturers complicit in genocide of the Palestinian people\n2. End all contracts and partnerships that sustain weapons supply to Israel \nInternationally\, the movement for Palestine is stronger than ever\, but Israel’s genocide has not yet been stopped. Palestinians continue to be martyred\, maimed\, and starved by the criminal Zionist regime and its Western backers. Behind the horrific images and videos we have seen daily for almost ten months are corporations like Maersk who enable genocide to happen. Behind the grotesque statements of demonic politicians justifying ethnic cleansing are the companies like Maersk who profit from it.
