SUMMARY:Picture the Homeless Oral History Project | Celebrating Resistance Relationships
DESCRIPTION:The Picture the Homeless Oral History Project (PTHOHP) invites you to join us in celebrating resistance relationships on June 30th 2023. Resistance relationships rooted in struggle grow our movements. We need to both nourish them and be nourished by them. \nDocumenting and preserving 20 years of radical homeless resistance and a collective vision of just futures\, the event will include a mini-exhibit of photos and short audio clips from the oral history interviews. We will have a short program and share an update on the interviews and where the project will be archived. And we will share some examples of the pop ed materials we’re creating. Beyond documenting and preserving\, we hope to share organizing lessons learned to keep building radical resistance and visionary organizing. \n\nThe event will also honor PTH co-founder Anthony Williams who passed away unexpectedly in May\, and we will offer birthday wishes to two long-time PTH folks\, Jean and Lynn.\n\nPlease feel free to bring a (non-alcoholic) beverage to share\, or something to eat.\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Revolutionary Feminism 2023: Cohort Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:For the past months\, participants in the Revolutionary Feminism course have been studying and debating how to advance revolutionary feminist struggle. In groups\, participants have created an analysis of the material conditions\, challenges and opportunities for building anti-patriarchal struggle\, and have worked on projects to mobilize for March 8\, International Working Women’s Day\, at particular sites of struggle\, such as grocery stores\, nail salons\, universities\, etc. \nJoin us on March 14th at 6 PM ET for our much-awaited cohort project exhibition as we celebrate International Working Women’s Day and the completion of our Revolutionary Feminism course. DESCRIPTION:REVERBERATIONS: solidarity with Haiti against foreign intervention \n\nThe Haitian Revolution is ongoing. From the year 1804 when Haitian people overthrew colonialism and white supremacy and made the dream of liberation a reality\, to today’s uprisings against foreign intervention\, Haitian people’s energy and unity have made waves throughout the world and have changed the course of history. \nre·ver·ber·a·tion \n/rəˌvərbəˈrāSH(ə)n/ \nnoun \n1. prolongation of a sound; resonance. \n2. a continuing effect; a repercussion. \nA wave and a reflection\, REVERBERATIONS recognizes the impact that Haitian uprisings have made on the world\, and the necessity of international solidarity to ring out in resonance. In this pivotal moment\, artists across the world urgently call for sovereignty\, dignity\, and democracy in Haiti as they build solidarity with comrades on the ground fighting against foreign intervention. These over 30 artworks show us that our movements only get stronger when we build solidarity\, make marks against imperialist violence\, and envision a future for the people. \nREVERBERATIONS is a project of the International Peoples’ Assembly – North America and is presented in person at The People’s Forum. DESCRIPTION:(Versión en español abajo)  \nPhotography has served throughout history as a tool for consciousness raising\, creating awareness\, promoting social change and building hope within social movements. \nFrom The People’s Forum\, we launch WE ARE THE WORKING CLASS — A photo project\, with the aim to share images that document every corner of the globe in this particular moment of crisis that we live in that has been aggravated by the onset of COVID-19. This is a project to construct memory\, exchange our common visions\, and share messages of unity. \nBecause this pandemic has highlighted\, once more\, that wealth is more important than the lives of the people\, this project wants to shine light\, whether from a window or from the street\, on the humanity that of our daily lives; that is\, finally\, a reflection of our struggles\, and our social movements. Some of us are at home\, others are in the trenches because we have no other choice but to go to work. But we keep organizing and creating networks of mutual support. \nPick up your camera! Pick up your phone! Join our WE ARE THE WORKING CLASS — A photo project. Document your mom while she supports community kitchens in Ecuador; or your grandpa going to the market. Take a photo of the poster that you hung on your window a few days ago in support of rent cancellation in New York. Photograph your partner before they leave for their nightly work shift. \nShow us\, from your corner of the world\, how you’re living this moment. \n***Selected photos will be part of a photo exhibit and a zine that document these distinct perspectives. The zine will be sent to all selected participants. \nHOW TO PARTICIPATE! \n— You can send up to 5 photos (jpeg in the highest quality that you can) to photoproject@peoplesforum.org\n— Send a description of the photo (phrases\, thoughts\, a literal or abstract description) + location + date. Spanish\, English\, Portuguese languages are welcome.\n— Optional web link or social media handle.\n— The selected photos will be part of an exhibition at our space in NYC\, and a zine that document these distinct perspectives. SUMMARY:NUESTRO OFICIO: LOCAL STREET PHOTOGRAPHY FROM VENEZUELA
DESCRIPTION:[Spanish below] \nNuestro Oficio is a compilation of photography of everyday life from the street that offers\, with a critical gaze\, the face of Venezuela that continues to withstand the onslaught of sanctions\, embargoes and greed. This work presents the perspectives of seven Venezuelan photographers who walk the streets and photograph working class life at a time when Venezuela is defined by outside forces without the consent of its people who suffer under the effects of sanctions. \nA photo exhibit by Cacri Collective. Cacri is a group of Venezuelan photographers who document everyday life in Venezuela. These seven artists have chosen to trace the daily life of the avenues and streets across Venezuela. A project that began in Caracas\, Cacri is eager to reveal the collective unconscious of the people who live in a country with one of the most dynamic politics in Latin America. \nPhotographers: Marcelo Volpe\, Giuliano Salvatore\, Dikó\, Nica Guerrero\, Maxwell Briceño\, Cacica Honta\, Carlos Foucault. \n******** \nNuestro Oficio es una compilación de imágenes de la calle que ofrece\, desde una mirada crítica\, el rostro de la Venezuela que resiste desde la cotidianidad a los embates de las sanciones\, del embargo\, de la codicia.  \nEste trabajo expone la mirada de 7 fotógrafxs venezolanxs que caminan las calles y fotografían a la clase trabajadora en un momento en el que los medios internacionales pretenden definir al país desde fuera\, pasando por encima de su gente que padece el efecto de las sanciones.  \nEsta exposición fotográfica está realizada por el Colectivo Cacri. Cacri es un colectivo de fotografxs venezolano que hace vida en la calles registrando el día a día. Estos siete artistas han decidido calcar la cotidianidad de las avenidas\, calles y carreteras que atraviesan Venezuela. SUMMARY:THE BIRTHPLACE: COMMUNITY\, CULTURE + HIP HOP / A PHOTO EXHIBIT+TALK
DESCRIPTION:A Photo-Exhibit.  \nHip Hop is a global social- cultural phenomenon that emerges in a context of poverty\, displacement and State violence during the early 1970’s in The South Bronx. It is rooted and it is an important continuation of the radical traditions of civil rights and black liberations movements of the 50’s and 60’s. \nRenown Bronx-born photographer\, Joe Conzo jr captured Hip Hop’s baby steps. This exhibit celebrates Hip Hop culture and its community . Joe’s photos include early hip hop jams\, street scenes\, and Latin music performers and events. In 1978\, while attending South Bronx High School\, Joe became friends with members of the Cold Crush Brothers\, an important and influential early Hip Hop group. \nJoe was a part of a generation that refused to be erased by corrupt politicians and a disparaging educational system.
