SUMMARY:People's Music Network Winter Hybrid Convergence
DESCRIPTION:For more information and registration\, click here.  \nThe People’s Music Network is hosting a Hybrid Winter Convergence from February 10-12\, 2023\, taking place both on Zoom and in person in Manhattan at The People’s Forum (TPF) – 320 West 37th Street (between 8th & 9th Avenues) New York\, NY 10018. \nThe event begins Friday night on Zoom with a Virtual Round Robin\, open to PMN members anywhere in the world (Note: to perform in the Virtual Round Robin requires filling out a form). People participating remotely via Zoom may join select workshops taking place in NYC as well as participate in Zoom-only workshops. \nThe in-person component of the event takes place at TPF all day on Saturday (10am to 9pm)\, featuring participatory workshops and song swaps in the morning and afternoon. Many of these workshops provide an opportunity to develop and/or practice collaborative performance pieces to be presented during the Saturday evening Collaborative Concert. Activities such as the opening ceremony\, shared meals for lunch and dinner\, a sales table for artists with merch\, and built-in networking time are woven into the schedule to help strengthen our community. Zoom-only participants have the chance to participate in networking activities via Zoom that run parallel to the in-person networking activities. \nWe feel called to devote our musical craft to supporting social movements for justice and liberation. The PMN/NYC Organizing Committee recognizes the urgency of the political moment we’re in right now and our program will connect the music of our members with major social justice struggles.

SUMMARY:DARE TO WIN! STRUGGLE FOR REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE | PANEL & OPEN MIC
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, March 24th\, from 6:00-8:30pm\, The People’s Forum will be hosting a panel discussion on the current grassroots struggles for abortion access\, the history of reproductive justice in the United States\, and what we need now. We will be hearing from different leaders about the conditions in the South\, the conditions facing the queer and trans communities\, the many complications working-class immigrant people face\, and about how we can use history to push the fight onwards. The panel will include simultaneous English/Spanish translation. This panel will be followed by an open mic so we encourage all artists to come and share! \nWe are facing a critical dismantling of the already inaccessible right to dignified reproductive care and abortion. Although the outcome of upcoming legislative battles could be a critical hit to reproductive rights across the nation\, working class communities\, especially in the South\, have already had to rely on unofficial networks of care to receive oftentimes risky medical treatment. As we confront the latest crisis in reproductive rights\, it is important that we remember the history of this struggle and recognize that we must go beyond the current threats and demand full and dignified reproductive rights for all. \nPanelists include: \n\nKelsea McLain\, Yellowhammer Fund\nCupertina Muñoz\, National Latina Institute\nElizabeth Birriel\, Breaking the Chains Magazine\nAnqa Khan\, Audre Lorde Project\n\nPlease note that this event is in-person we will be checking for proof of vaccination and photo identification at the front desk. If you would like to contribute to the OPEN MIC\, please list your information in the RSVP form below.
