DESCRIPTION:Join us Fall 2026 for a new set of ASL Classes. These are virtual classes\, facilitated by Kristen Suiter for people of all levels in their language study journey. \n  \nINTRO TO ASL – Apply Here  \nIn this class\, we will build your vocabulary in American Sign Language (get ready to be able to sign entire conversations!) and explore Deaf American culture and history. From learning the ABCs and how to introduce yourself to studying Deaf representation in media\, this offering will cover the basics of American Sign Language and American Deaf culture. \n\nTuesdays 6pm – 7:30pm EST\nSeptember 15th –  October 20th (6 weeks)\nSliding Scale ($150 – $300)\n\n  \nASL LEVEL 2 – Apply Here \nThis ASL Level 2 course is designed to continue your skill development in expressive signing. The focus of this course is to prepare students for non-verbal interaction and communication with members of the deaf community. You’ll learn useful vocabulary and you’ll be able to hold meaningful conversations about various topics. But it’s not all serious – you’ll also learn how to tell jokes\, use common expressions and sayings\, and relay anecdotes to your audience. We’ll also focus on teaching you more about the deaf community\, so you gain a better appreciation for deaf culture\, activism\, and learn how you can get involved. \n\nWednesdays 6pm – 730pm EST\nSeptember 16th – October 21st (6 weeks)\nSliding Scale ($150 – $300)

DESCRIPTION:PRINT-MAKING OPEN STUDIO w/ DANIEL + PETER + HAMZAH \nOne-day   |   11AM – 2PM   |   Saturday\, October 3 \nOpen studio is a space to develop a print-making project in community with other organizers\, artists\, and cultural workers. \nThese sessions are designed for those who have taken Screenprint 101 or Revolutionary Printmaking at The People’s Forum\, or who have experience with relief or screenprinting. \nEach session is drop-in and goals are defined by the participant. Basic tools and materials are available—including paper\, transparencies\, ink\, linoleum\, screens\, and emulsion. \nIf you would like the studio to print a transparency for your screenprint project\, please email the file to francesca.b@peoplesforum.org by noon on Thursday before the session with subject line ‘OPEN STUDIO PRINT’ and write the dimensions (inch by inch) in the body of the email. \nRegistration is required. Come to experiment\, come to get your hands dirty! \n__ \nDaniel Drennan ElAwar is an illustrator\, printmaker\, fiber artist\, and educator. His work\, based in a documentary genre\, focuses primarily on issues of displacement\, dispossession\, and disinheritance. His research and practice concerning decolonization and resistance led to the founding in 2009 of a Beirut-based artists’ collective\, ‎جمع اليد (Jamaa Al-Yad). He currently manages the studio and workshops for Frontline Arts in Branchburg\, NJ. \nOne of Many artists\, Peter and Hamzah\, create fashion\, art\, and music as a way to drive positive change in the world. They love screenprinting for its versatility and reusability. They actively use it to produce upcycled sustainable fashion pieces and prints. Learn more about their practice at oneofmany.shop.

SUMMARY:ARABIC LANGUAGE CLASSES | FALL 2026
DESCRIPTION:Arabic for Social Justice\nAPPLY HERE: Registration Form \nAlgarabía Language Co-op is offering new Arabic courses at The People’s Forum to those who are interested in learning Arabic with a focus on topics of social justice\, cinema\, media\, and culture. Through weekly social justice themes\, and using a communicative and popular education approach\, participants will improve their Arabic skills and critically engage with various cultural productions in Arabic\, including films\, TV series\, newsreels\, short stories\, and songs. \nThese courses are designed for folks at different levels of fluency in their productive (speaking\, writing) and receptive (listening and reading) skills. Special focus will be given to learning vocabulary and community organizing terminology relevant to contemporary social movements in the U.S. and the Arab world. \nCourse Offerings\nAll courses run for 10 weeks. Total tuition for each complete 10-week course is $300–$400 on a sliding scale\, or $500 when paid through a work or professional-development stipend. \nBeginner I (in-person and virtual options)\nThis course introduces students with no prior experience to the Arabic alphabet and the basics of reading\, writing\, pronunciation\, and sentence structure.
