DESCRIPTION:¡Bienvenides! Welcome to Spanish for Social Justice! \n  \nAlgarabía Language Co-op is excited to announce that we are offering virtual Spanish classes this spring! \n  \nAlgarabía Language Co-op offers Spanish for Social Justice courses in partnership with The People’s Forum. We offer classes at the beginner\, intermediate\, and advanced levels of fluency for those interested in topics related to social justice\, politics\, and culture. Through weekly social justice themes and using a communicative and popular education approach\, participants will improve their Spanish skills and critically engage with various cultural productions centered around the lived experiences of working-class people of Indigenous and African descent on the continent. These courses are designed for folks at different levels of fluency in their productive (speaking\, writing) and receptive (listening and reading) skills. Special focus will be given to learning vocabulary and community organizing terminology relevant to contemporary social movements in New York City (Lenapehoking)\, one of the largest and most diverse Spanish-speaking cities in the world\, as well as the rest of Turtle Island and Abya Yala.  \n  \nTo apply\, click HERE \n  \nSUMMER 2026 COURSE SCHEDULE: \n  \nClick HERE to view the full list of classes\, schedules and descriptions. \n*Times are in Eastern Time (ET) / New York\, New York \nWEEKDAY SESSIONS: Virtual Courses (10 Weeks)  \nStart: Monday July 6th & Tuesday July 7th  \nEnd: Monday September 7th & Tuesday September 8th \nWEEKEND SESSIONS: Virtual Courses (10 Weeks)  \nStart: Saturday July 11th & Sunday July 12th \nEnd: Saturday September 12th & Sunday September 13th \n  \nIMPORTANT: \n▪ This virtual program is Open-to-All. However\, we prioritize access to folks identified as BIPOC. \n▪ Please only apply if you can attend most of the classes.  \n▪ Each session can hold up to 15 participants. \n▪ Cost of class $200-$400 sliding scale. This includes all course materials. \n*$500 if an employer or another institutional funding source pays for the contribution.* \n  \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION \nAll courses focus on the use of inclusive\, gender-neutral\, and anti-racist language. There is an emphasis on validating U.S. Spanish and other varieties of Spanish that are often considered “non-standard.” We actively include the use of “vos” as used in Central America.  \n  \nAs part of Algarabía’s mission to make our courses accessible\, we offer sliding-scale rates and flexible payment plans. You’ll be able to select your payment tier and plan directly within the application form\, based on your financial circumstances. \nABOUT OUR LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION: At Algarabía Language Co-op\, we see language learning as a meaningful\, collaborative\, and transformative process reflected in our training in hands-on communicative and task-based language teaching approaches and our use of popular education in the language classroom. We seek to support the holistic development of all language learners as they become competent multilingual speakers. DESCRIPTION:DESIGNING THE POSTER: IMAGE AND ACTION w/ JOHN + DAVID \nTwo-day   |   Friday\, August 7\, 5:30 – 8:30PM AND Saturday\, August 8\, 3 – 6 PM   |   Sliding Scale \nThis two-day workshop blends historical context with hands-on making to explore how typography\, imagery\, and composition interact to build an effective poster. After an introduction to core design principles\, participants will spend this workshop developing their own visual language to produce a poster using analog and digital techniques. \nThrough demonstrations\, critiques\, and collaborative discussion\, participants will leave with a deeper understanding of design as a tool for social change. No previous experience necessary! \n____ \nJohn Kudos and David Jon Walker are cofounders of WeType and partners at KASA Collective. Drawing from their work designing exhibitions\, public experiences\, and typefaces rooted in cultural research\, David and John will guide participants through the anatomy of an effective poster—from message and audience to hierarchy\, format\, and production.

SUMMARY:BOOK TALK | Motown & The Making of Working-Class Revolutionaries with Jerome Scott and Walda Katz-Fishman
DESCRIPTION:An inside look at how the experiences of Black workers created lifelong revolutionaries \nMotown and the Making of Working-Class Revolutionaries offers a fresh perspective on class\, race\, and revolution in the United States. Drawing on more than forty hours of interviews with former members of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers\, Scott and Katz-Fishman share the rich story of the League\, including the women and students. That story includes the history of the automotive industry in Detroit\, the 1967 Detroit Rebellion\, and the wildcat strike that sparked the Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement (DRUM). The authors describe the rise of the League from 1968 to 1971. They explore the centrality of struggle and political education as the League split and a section of League comrades moved into revolutionary organizations and social movement spaces\, many of which remain active today. League comrades share their analysis of the current moment and staying the course of revolutionary struggle. \n\nJerome Scott\, a former labor organizer in the Detroit auto plants in the 1960s-70s and a founding member of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers\, was the founding director of Project South: Institute for the Elimination of Poverty & Genocide. He is a political educator in movement and labor organizations in the South and nationally\, and a contributing author/co-author to political education toolkits and numerous articles on the capitalist crisis\, the digital and AI technological revolution\, and class\, race\, and the revolutionary process. He was co-recipient of the American Sociological Association 2004 Award for the Public Understanding of Sociology\, is a board member of the General Baker Institute\, and is a member of the League of Revolutionaries for a New America. \nWalda Katz-Fishman\, a scholar activist and professor emerita of sociology at Howard University\, was a founding member of Project South: Institute for the Elimination of Poverty & Genocide. She facilitates political education in academic and movement spaces and is a contributing author/co-author and editor of popular education toolkits and numerous chapters and articles on the global capitalist crisis\, the AI/digital revolution\, class\, race and gender\, and revolutionary transformation. She was co-recipient of the American Sociological Association 2004 Award for the Public Understanding of Sociology and is active in academic and social justice organizations\, including the League of Revolutionaries for a New America.

Each show is a live\, intimate\, and immersive experience—a space where music & art are understood as tools in the struggle for collective liberation. \nThis month\, we’re bringing Osiris to the TPF stage for a rare one-night-only set ahead of his forthcoming album drop. Osiris is a 21 year old artist from NYC who draws from soul\, boom-bap\, and new wave hiphop to create a heartfelt\, laid-back sound. His songs meant to heal\, motivate\, and empower people. Osiris is an active political organizer and youth educator in Brooklyn. Mainly\, Osiris is about bringing people together and creating community through art\, love\, and creativity. \n
