Description
Members at The People’s Forum have access to room rentals for meetings and events at mutually agreed upon dates and times. Members can also choose to receive 1 seat, free of charge, in the co-working space for the first 6 months after The People’s Forum opens. Being a member at The People’s Forum connects groups and individuals to a large and progressive network of people who are working to create meaningful social change. Members are encouraged to host as well as attend the various classes, workshops, and cultural offerings at The People’s Forum.
Annual Membership Dues
There is a small annual membership fee based on a sliding scale determined by your organization’s annual operating budget. The sliding scale is broken down into the following four tiers which determines the annual membership fee.
The People’s Forum Policies
1. House Rules
- No smoking is allowed anywhere inside the facilities
- Beer and wine is available to be served at events upon request. Members can request liquor for an event but it will only be permitted in cultural practices and ceremonies, if this applies to your event you can make request to bring what you need for the ceremony.
- No property of People’s Forum may be removed, moved or damaged by the Member or its employees, agents or guests. If you break the equipment, etc. you may be held liable.
- The member will not have access to any technical equipment nor will they be permitted to handle any of the equipment.
- The Member shall not have access to or use of the kitchen or coffee bar facilities.
- The member is responsible for monitoring the conduct of its guests to ensure that the policies in this agreement as well as the TPF Code of ethics are upheld and no disruptive or inappropriate behavior takes place.
- We are not responsible for any property you leave behind on the premises. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have retrieved all of you personal and/or company belongings prior to leaving.
2. Membership
- Member Form: The member form must be completed in full and will kept for contact information purposes. This information will not be shared with any 3rd party.
- Member Cards: All members are required to show their membership card at the front desk upon entering the facility. Membership cards are the property of People’s Forum and must be surrendered if demanded by the institution. Replacement cards are assessed at a $5 fee. Key chains?
- Orientation: Membership will be finalized once members have participated in the membership orientation. Membership Orientation will be held on the last Monday of every month. Members have up to two months to participate in the membership orientation. Membership Orientation will not exceed 3.5 hours.
- Rental Requests: requests will be made online and will be granted on a first come first serve basis.
- Food & Drink:
- Members receive a 10% discount to the entire array of edibles and beverages at The People’s Forum.
- For groups meetings and events, TPF offers catering to the needs of the group, based on a per-person fee or in platter arrangements. Please speak to the Director of Food Services or ask for our menu. We ask that you not bring in food from the outside. No outside food in the cafeteria.
- Events/Classes:
- We are not the sponsor of your events or classes. Our name, logo or images should not appear on your advertising materials without prior approval and consent.
- If TPF cancels a reservation and is unable to provide the date, time or space, we will work with you to arrange an alternative at the prices previously set. It is important to note the TPF reserves the right to cancel an event up to the day of the event. We will reimburse the full cost of the any fees paid. We are not responsible for any fees or expenses beyond the rental space.
XI. Closures: Any closures of our facilities will be posted on our website, Facebook
page. Additionally, signs will be left on the doors at the entrance and a recording will be left on our phone lines. We are scheduled for closure on the following days annually:
- New Year’s Day – January 1st
- Memorial Day- Last Monday of May
- Labor Day- 1st Monday of September
- Thanksgiving- 4th Thursday of November
- Day After Thanksgiving
- Christmas Eve – December 24th
- Christmas- December 25th
3. Co-Working
- Guests: Members with co-working are responsible for monitoring the conduct of its guests during co-working times and in co-working spaces to ensure that the policies in this agreement are upheld and no disruptive or inappropriate behavior takes place. Additionally, anytime a member wishes to meet with a guest(s) during co-working times a conference room must be rented for such meeting to take place.
- Waitlist: If you are interested in coworking but were unable to add coworking to your membership because we reached capacity you can request to be added to the waiting list. When coworking seats become available they will be offered to members on the waiting list on a first come first served basis.
III. Cancellations: Coworking is an optional add-on to the TPF membership and can be
cancelled at any time without cancelling the membership in full. If you wish to cancel coworking please notify us as soon as possible so vacant seats can be offered to other members that are interested.
4. Rates & Fees
- Annual Fee: An annual fee, based on a sliding scale, is due for all members upon joining The People’s Forum and will be due at the anniversary date each year thereafter.
- Billing: Members will be billed at the end of each month for the room rental activity assumed throughout that bill cycle’s month. Payments must be made by the 15th of each month. Failure to pay your monthly bill can lead to a loss of membership benefits and/or account termination.
- Payment Options: We accept all major credit cards, checks and cash.
- Rate Changes: The People’s Forum Board of Directors reserve the right to change its rates at any time. In the event of a rate change, we will notify members well in advance of making any changes.
5. Security
- In order to ensure safety of the personnel and property of The People’s Forum, you may be asked any of the following:
- Provide a list of proposed supplies and equipment you will provide for the event.
- If the event is not open to the public, provide a proposed guest list. Only the names on the list will be permitted on the premises with the exception of people that are approved by a representative of your group.
- TPF reserves the right to inspect any and all packages, boxes, bags, purses, backpacks or similar.
6. The People’s Forum Library
- You are invited to check out up to 2 books from the ground-floor lending library for up to 2 weeks at a time.
- The reference library on the mezzanine level features books for on-site reference only and cannot be checked out at any time.
- We accept donated books in good condition pertaining to activism, social movements, labor history, and political theory. We are particularly interested in children, young-adult, and non-English language books in those subjects.
7. Collectivity
- Bi-Monthly Membership Meeting: Every two months a membership meeting will be held at The People’s Forum. While these meetings are not required, members are encouraged to attend. These meetings are a time for members to get to know one another, for TPF staff to provide updates on the space and upcoming activities, and for any grievances or tensions to be resolved.
- Membership Couch Sessions: Once a month, members are invited to join the People’s Forum on The Couch. These sessions will feature leaders of the movement and communities in struggle in New York City. These sessions are for members and members are encouraged to collaborate in the building of these sessions.
- Membership Project Showcase: In February, members are invited to participate in a membership project showcase. This showcase will be a week of member-led activities used to promote the projects and ideas of The People’s Forum membership.
*The People’s Forum reserves the right to revise and change the policies in this agreement at any time. Members will be promptly notified of any changes to the policies.
