March 24, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

On Thursday, March 24th, from 6:00-8:30pm, The People’s Forum will be hosting a panel discussion on the current grassroots struggles for abortion access, the history of reproductive justice in the United States, and what we need now. We will be hearing from different leaders about the conditions in the South, the conditions facing the queer and trans communities, the many complications working-class immigrant people face, and about how we can use history to push the fight onwards. The panel will include simultaneous English/Spanish translation. This panel will be followed by an open mic so we encourage all artists to come and share!

We are facing a critical dismantling of the already inaccessible right to dignified reproductive care and abortion. Although the outcome of upcoming legislative battles could be a critical hit to reproductive rights across the nation, working class communities, especially in the South, have already had to rely on unofficial networks of care to receive oftentimes risky medical treatment. As we confront the latest crisis in reproductive rights, it is important that we remember the history of this struggle and recognize that we must go beyond the current threats and demand full and dignified reproductive rights for all.

Panelists include:

  • Kelsea McLain, Yellowhammer Fund
  • Cupertina Muñoz, National Latina Institute
  • Elizabeth Birriel, Breaking the Chains Magazine
  • Anqa Khan, Audre Lorde Project

Please note that this event is in-person we will be checking for proof of vaccination and photo identification at the front desk. If you would like to contribute to the OPEN MIC, please list your information in the RSVP form below.
