Join 1804 Books and The People’s Forum for a celebration of leftist texts for Red Books Day, an annual holiday commemorating the publication of the Communist Manifesto in 1848. We’ll be open on a Sunday(!) so you can enjoy all the day will have to offer. Help us stand in solidarity with revolutionary thinkers and writers against fascism and right-wing repression! Some events will be livestreamed.

#RedBooksDay reminds us how we are inspired by left texts, both intellectually and spiritually, and art serves as an expression of our revolutionary spirits. Featuring Manifesto-inspired art made in-house by TPF artists, we invite you to bring your own shirts, totes, sweaters–anything you can print!–to add some revolutionary flair to your life. We’ll also have designs and blank templates you can use to make pins for your bags, vests, hats–anything you can pin!
Join us for an in-person screening of the Raoul Peck biopic, The Young Karl Marx. We’ll watch as 26 year-old Karl Marx embarks with his wife, Jenny, on the road to exile. In 1844 Paris, he meets Friedrich Engels, an industrialist’s son, who provides the last piece of the puzzle to the young Karl Marx’s new vision of the world. Together, between censorship and the police’s repression, riots and political upheavals, they will lead the labor movement during its development into a modern era.
Whether it’s your first time or your hundredth, the Communist Manifesto brings something new with each reading. Join the TPF staff as we read it out loud collectively, and revisit this short, albeit monumental text, to see what the words unfold for us and our revolutionary work. There will also be two small discussion sessions with staff for teasing out the meanings and connecting the text with our lives today.
Dance with Brooklyn-based Strings N Skins on a trip around our mother earth. Colombia meets Haiti on their musical journey where the stars are their GPS and their ship is their music. Their multilingual performance (English, Spanish, Creole) and traditional dances will take you through the world with their universal aura of sound.
