Join us at The People’s Forum for our Freedom Summer Film Series!

As we begin the partial reopening of our space, every Friday evening in May we will show a film in our screening room at 50% capacity.

This is a free, educational program, however, in order to maintain a safe capacity level, we ask that you leave a $6 deposit to reserve your participation. You will be refunded your deposit upon arrival or if you cancel.  Please have your confirmation email ready when you arrive.

Freedom Summer Films is a series that aims to explore the humanity and the creativity of the many struggles against imperialism, colonialism, capitalism at home and abroad, and we hope to leave inspired for a future of liberation through community and love.  We know that cultural expression is one of the most powerful forms of political education, and we hope you join us for these collective viewings!

FREEDOM SUMMER FILM SERIES | The People’s Fighters: Teofilo STEVENSON and the Legend of Cuban Boxing

About “The Mali-Cuba Connection”
Over the past 50 years, and despite its relatively small population of only 11 million, Cuba has produced more Olympic boxing medalists than any other country, winning 73 medals in the sport in that time, 38 of them gold. That success was spearheaded by Teófilo Stevenson, who once famously turned down a million-dollar offer to fight Muhammad Ali and turn professional, choosing instead to continue fighting for his beloved homeland.

Year: 2018  | Director: Peter Berg | Duration: 87 minutes
